Stories from the Red Chair: Balls

I am absolutely enamored of Graham Norton. He hosts a chat show that normally involves three guests all together on one sofa and he interviews them all at once. There is usually a musical guest who plays a song and then there are the famed “Stories from the Red Chair”. It was originally an idea from Robbie Corbin, who is an English comedic actor, and they involve telling your best story while seated in the red chair. If you tell a crap story, a lever is pulled and you get flipped out of the chair. If you tell a good story, however, you get to walk.

Every week, I’ll tell a story that I would tell if I were seated in the famed “Red Chair”.

——————-

I was in a rather posh restaurant in downtown Mexico City and was out with a girlfriend who was visiting. There was a dish on the menu called “criadillas” and I wanted to try it.

“What’s that?” asked Elaine.

“Pig testicles,” I replied, still perusing the menu.

When they came, I took my first bite.

Elaine asked how they were, with a very skeptical look on her face.

“Chewy,” I replied, with a bit of a quizzical look.

“And that surprises you?” she retorted.

I had to laugh, “No, I guess not.”

Criadillas

Criadillas before being cooked. My dish did not look like this at all.

    • I know, right? I don’t think I could have stomached it if it had. And considering I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to food, it was eye-opening. I will definitely not eat anything still alive, however. That’s where I draw the line.
